3 Top Tips For Happiness
Over the past months I’ve come across numerous books, articles, coaches, books, websites and videos all discussing how to be happy.
And I can tell you that there is an answer! Are you ready….sitting comfortably?….Apparently…It’s …..‘be happy’…That’s it…just that…the only way to happiness is to change your way of being and your attitude. We need to work at being happy, choose to be happy.. I didn’t say it was an easy answer!
We all have some crap or other thrown at us daily that makes us far from happy…but among all the tips, suggestions and support I found out there, these 3 quick and easy things repeatedly came up .
So I’ve been practicing them for 4 months now to shift my mindset…. (I started on a Friday 13th according to my diary!)… I believe they may actually be working!
Why Not Try These 3 Top Tips For Daily Happiness?
1) Be Mindful. Mindfulness means focusing on the present moment and paying attention to what you’re doing at that precise moment. Not worrying about the past or what may happen in the future.
Being focused in this way calms your mind and nervous system. It also helps make you more appreciative of things around you, which can make you feel happier. You can try it in short bursts during the week as you carry out daily routines to draw you back out of being in autopilot mode.
I’ve promised myself to pay attention to how my body feels and what I’m actually doing instead of tapping out emails whilst eating lunch; trying to write a text message whilst weaving my way through crowded streets (badly!); not worrying about what happened earlier that today whilst my boyfriend rants about his job…again.. 🙂
2) Practice Gratitude. This is a simple and quite powerful one to do – you can even do it in bed.
Think of 3 – 5 things daily that you’re grateful for. They can be really simple. You can either give yourself a couple of minutes before getting out of bed to focus on the things you’re grateful for in your life at that moment. Or, I prefer actually writing them down first thing as they give me more of an incentive to get up! Especially if I can say thanks for a blue sky in a London winter!
If you repeat this at night, being grateful for 3 -5 things that the day brought, it works even better at raising your spirits and lowering stress as you begin to focus on what is good in your life.
3) Visualize It! If you practice the first two of these tips, you’ll be setting your mind up to let the real power of this final tip come into your life.
Spend 5 minutes a day visualizing yourself in the future, with everything you desire; the success, wealth, health. I create a little story of where I want to live, what I do during the day and what I enjoy doing which makes me feel happy and excited. This in turn inspires me to work towards my goals. Some say visualising and feeling in this way even opens you up to the universe as you tell it you’re ready to receive this reality.
Why not practice these 3 top tips for daily happiness every day for a couple of weeks at least and see if you notice any positive changes to your life and levels of happiness …I’m sure you will – I’d love to hear how you get on!
